The most exciting thing to ever happen in Ohio?
Wow. A shocking story from the LA Times: nearly three dozen submachine guns and small firearms stolen from a SWAT facility. Well at least the weapons were converted to fire blanks. That’s a good thing, right?
The obvious concern is that whoever stole the weapons will convert them from firing blanks to using live ammunition. Downing acknowledged that was “definitely a possibility” but said that to do so would require an understanding of the inner workings of the weapons.
Gun experts and online tutorials suggest, however, that the process is relatively simple and requires only a few parts. The company that manufactures the conversion kits used by the LAPD has an instructional video on its website that walks a viewer through the steps of returning an MP-5 to its original form in about five minutes.
Nevermind…

30 Rock actor Alec Baldwin will host Here’s the Thing, an interview show via podcast, starting Oct. 24 for WNYC in New York City, the Associated Press reports. Guests will include big names such as actor Michael Douglas, Republican campaign strategist Ed Rollins, reality-show celeb Kris Kardashian Jenner, comic Chris Rock, actress Kathleen Turner, author Erica Jong and veteran talk-show host Dick Cavett.
Baldwin has subbed for host Kurt Andersen, and supplied some pretty funny pledge pitches to stations. But he was interested in doing more, said Dean Cappello, WNYC’s chief content officer. “Alec is one of our hometown guys,” he said.Oooh. If ever I have been excited about an upcoming podcast, it is now.
